Message Basically replace the ECU EPROM chip (which holds all the timing, fuel, etc maps) with a non-volatile SRAM (very basically an equivalent chip, but can also be re-written on the fly allowing you to switch EPROM programs in seconds).

The problem is to write to this new chip you have to send data to a certain pin on it (A15). And as luck would have it, that pin is connected to the consult port!!!

In short, to have full emulation/datalog capabilities you only need to upgrade your EPROM in the ECU with the NVSRAM chip, plug into the consult port with a PC, and run extensive's software. You can then "flash" the NVSRAM with whatever program you want, and you are good to go. (You don't have to leave the PC connected when you are done.)

Using the NVSRAM, in this engineer's opinion, is the best way to emulate by far. Using it leaves very little room for signal integrity issues common with traditional EPROM emulation techniques. Traditionally an emulator would reside outside of the ECU, with a large wire harness connected to the EPROM socket. Xtensive has found a way to keep everything inside the ECU.

Hooray!
